What A Blustery Day!

What a crazy day in the Bitterroot Valley! We had 50 degree weather, but the wind was blowing pretty consistently at 25 mph. The sound of the wind whipping around outside made both, the cat and Ben, race around like spooked wild ponies.

"The wind shows us how close to the edge we are." ~ Joan Didion

We had a short outing, but it was just too windy to be out. Ben went to the window often to point and babble about the sticks, lawn chairs, the neighbor's shingles and what-not flying from the west. Being blissfully ignorant, Ben was tickled to see his blue ball roll along and be "Gone With The Wind".

"Through woods and mountain passes

The winds, like anthems, roll."

~ Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

The strength of the wind made it a very exciting day; even indoors.

"There is a muscular energy in sunlight corresponding to the spiritual energy of wind."

~ Annie Dillard

There were times when Ben seemed quite concerned about the noises he was hearing.

"The wind began to switch

The house, to pitch

And suddenly the hinges started to unhitch"

~ Frank Baum (Dorothy, Wizard of Oz)

It was a great day to cuddle up on the couch and read.

"No one can tell me,

Nobody knows,

Where the wind comes from,

Where the wind goes.

It's flying from somewhere

As fast as it can,

I couldn't keep up with it,

Not if I ran.

But if I stopped holding

The string of my kite,

It would blow with the wind

For a day and a night.

And when I found it,

Wherever it blew,

I should know that the wind

Had been going there too.

So then I could tell them

Where the wind goes...

But where the wind comes from

Nobody knows."

~ A. A. Milne
